Becoming a full-time garden designer was probably inevitable! After growing up in a family of keen gardeners on a farm in South Wales I went on to take an Art degree, and then worked for 15 years as a teacher, and educational consultant in the field of Special Needs. I continued to develop my knowledge and love of plants by designing and creating gardens of my own, as well as for other people, reading everything garden-related I could get my hands on, and visiting gardens wherever I travelled.
Finally, I decided to bring all this experience together and re-trained as a garden designer at the English Gardening School at London's Chelsea Physic Garden, following this with a year spent working with well known garden designers, Robin Templar Williams and Moira Farnham, at the Garden Design School at Painshill Park in Surrey.
Since then I have been running my own business, both in the UK and in France and have experience of working in a wide range of gardens from tiny city courtyards to larger country gardens.
Many of my projects come through personal recommendation, and, whether working in the UK or France, I take care to listen carefully to clients' needs. My design philosophy is to link a house and garden to its surroundings, and to create a garden which reflects the owners' individuality.
This means I am not confined to a particular style, and I am as happy creating a minimalist roof garden as designing a traditional cottage garden or gravel-based Mediterranean terrace. Every client and every site is different, and I enjoy that variety.
